HOW TO USE THE RELAXATION TECHNIQUE

For the best results, give this audio recording your full attention.

Lie down comfortably somewhere you won’t be interrupted, maybe go into your bedroom and close the door.

Switch off any noisy distractions, such as the TV, ring signals and app notifications.

Take some time out, just for yourself.

Please don’t listen to this recording when you need to maintain concentration, such as when driving.

Tip: When to Use the Relaxation Technique

I find that relaxation techniques work best to help you let go of the tension that has built up during the day.

Try using the technique in the evening or when you go to bed.

Back pain sufferers commonly wake up in the morning feeling stiff and tense. I don’t recommend trying a relaxation technique at this time.

Getting up and about and moving is probably a better bet.

(Movement is key to overcoming your back problems. More about good ways to exercise in email updates and on the podcast.)

OLD SCHOOL TECH – THE RELAXATION TAPE

I first got back pain way back in the early ’90s. In those days, people listened to audio cassette tapes. Mostly music of course, but also spoken word. I found that a simple and effective way to help my back pain was to listen to a relaxation tape.  By lying comfortably and following the instructions, I could do the technique easily. No special skills or equipment required. Just let the tension melt away.

relaxation cassette tape

That tape is long gone now, along with my old tape deck. I’ll never forget though, how it helped me to get started on the route to a pain-free life. Since then, I’ve learned many more techniques to promote well-being. I created backpainliberation.com to share my entire strategy for living with a healthy back.

HOW TO

Beat Back Pain

Naturally

With former chronic back pain sufferer, and

host of the Back Pain Liberation Podcast, Iain Barker

About Me

Hi, I’m Iain Barker creator of Back Pain Liberation.

I got back pain young and it got worse over time. Like many others in this situation, I saw plenty of doctors and therapists – all to no avail.

In the end self-help worked best – it often does for bad backs. Now I train regularly, focus on what works, and don’t get back pain.

My goal is to share what I learned. To help you find a more effective way when treatment doesn’t hit the spot.

Saving to Desktop or Laptop

Not all browsers support auto-download. If a new window opens, right click (ctrl-click mac) on the player. Save the audio file to your device.

Saving to iOS devices (iPhone or iPad)

Downloading files in iOS is a little more involved but not difficult. There are 2 options that I have tried and I know work on an iPhone as of Jan 2019:

#1 Using a desktop that has iTunes installed
  1. Save the audio mp3 file to your desktop
  2. In iTunes, select File>Add file to library then select the mp3 file
  3. Sync your iPhone
#2 Direct to your iPhone
  1. Copy the URL of this page: https://www.backpainliberation.com/relaxation-mp3-audio/
  2. In the App Store, download Readdle Document 6
  3. Open the browser within Document 6 app
  4. Paste URL and go to this page
  5. Long hold the ‘Download’ button above
  6. Select ‘copy download link’

You will see the file downloading. It will be available for offline use in the Documents 6 downloads folder.
